Award Winning Double Bass with Our Tasmanian Blackwood
Judges Comments on Double Bass:
“Beautiful, clear and compelling tone, good consistent dynamic range and seamless response. Truly exceptional ergonomics … too easy to play! A fantastic, versatile bass” – Or Baraket
“Very easy to play. Lovely upper register G string, with a refined sound, excellent projection and good balance overall across the strings … the solo quality is striking. Although delicate, the sound has wonderful bottom to reinforce it.” – John Clayton
Blackwood - Acacia Melanoxylon
Blackwood has gained respect among luthiers as a high quality guitar material for all acoustic instruments including classical, acoustic and archtop guitars. Blackwood timber is similar to the very popular Koa as the two timbers belong to the Acacia family.
Processing premium acoustic quality Tasmanian Blackwood is a timely task that can take up to 5 years from log to guitar kit. Our high standard of log selection and quality control of each Blackwood flitch yields about 20% of the initial amount, the remainder being used in furnitures.
Tasmanian Blackwood is predominantly a dark-chocolate brown with beautiful golden highlights that shimmer in any light. Colour in some cases can also be very dark mauve with highlighted grain patterns. The beautiful shimmering of Blackwood fiddleback figuring is similar to fiddleback Maple and acquires a 3-dimensional property especially when finished.
